BEST dinner I've had in Chicago in the past year. The server came off a bit rushed at first, but was actually incredibly attentive and friendly. The pasta was hands down the best I've had in Chicago so far. The homemade quality was obvious, and the lamb pasta had incredible flavor. The gnocchi was perfectly soft and light. My dad had the duck, which he said was a great portion size and super flavorful. For dessert, the gelato was out of this world--it tasted just like the gelato I had in Italy. The chocolate was so delicious but my absolute favorite was the coffee. You could taste the high quality of the coffee beans in the gelato(I wish I had asked where they got them from it was so delicious!) As for appetizers, the zucchini fritters were good, though not extraordinary, but the cheese citrus dish (STRACCIATELLA) had a surprising and unique flavor combination that I absolutely loved. Not a drop was left! Even though the interior is just okay compared to other Chicago restaurants, the food is spectacular and I will 100% be bringing all my Chicago guests here in the future!
The place had a very interesting vibe and atmosphere. The service was good too. The fritters and the cacio de Pepe were amazing and stole the show. The tortellini was a bit too salty for my taste and the ribs had a sweet sauce that was definitely interesting and new. I also had the rosemary spritz and it was very light and refreshing . I would definitely come back here.
The Valentine's Day pre fix was immaculate. The crudo was absolutely fresh and the lamb chop was so memorable, fatty but deep meaty flavor. My least favorite but still five star worthy dish was the sweet potato, just slightly too sour for me, but the flavors were good subjectively objectively. My only tiny thing was on the drink menu, I wish the price was bolded on the old fashion drink, I thought the 50 was mistakenly the proof of the liquor That is my fault though so can't complain. Would consider this a must try when visiting again.
Loved our experience at Rose Mary! We walked in on a Thursday evening and were immediately seated at the bar. It was restaurant week, and the menu was an incredible value for $60. Everything was delicious and the flavors were perfectly curated. I don't like sweet potatoes, but I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet potato dish and the prosciutto vinaigrette was such a good compliment. The tuna crudo was also amazing and loved the crispy capers. My husband said the cacio e pepe was one of the best he's had. The steak was delicious especially with the grilled vegetables. And of course, dessert was such a treat, loved the orange and toffee combo. Our bartender was great and professional. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great meal in Chicago.
So happy I was finally able to try Rose Mary! They offer Italian inspired dishes with a Croatian flare. The inside is light and airy like the food they offer. I loved the lighter wood tones, open kitchen, plants, and accented bar area. The open dining space was larger than I expected but filled up quickly. The ideal food concept is it order multiple dishes and share with your group. I loved that it allowed us to try a little bit of a lot. I started with the Blade Runner cocktail. This bourbon cocktail was good but nothing that sets itself apart from others I've tried. For food, we started with the Sweet Potatoes and Apple & Endive Salad. The Sweet Potatoes were a bit salty but I loved the roast on them and under sauce. The Apple & Endive Salad was bright, light, and fresh tasting. We then ordered three pastas: Radiatore 'Cacio e Pepe', Mafaldine, and Tagliatelle. The Cacio e Pepe was rich and definitely cheesy but also came across as grain to me at points. The Mafaldine had a fun noodle shape, plenty of meat, and a subtle spice finishing note to it. The Tagliatelle was my favorite with warm buttery brown sugar and pops of the shaved black truffle. To finish, to shared the Toffee Zelten which was good but a bit dry and the Crostata which was more liked. The dessert as a whole didn't blow me away. Overall, I loved visiting and enjoying good company over good food. While there were some food misses for me, I loved the freshness and brightness of everything we ordered. Their pastas were consistently good. I would be intrigued to see their future menu rotations and revisit indefinitely!
